Palau Focuses on Eco-friendly Practices

(Dive Travel Business News - March 10, 2011) -- Palau is taking strides to preserve its natural resources, including sharks, whales, jelly fish, dolphins, agriculture, aquaculture and coral reefs. Eco-friendly practices are indigenous to the local culture and traditions and are now becoming a springboard for the island nation as several Palauan entities are enhancing their practices.

Palau’s former president, Tommy E. Remengesau, a key supporter of Shark Sanctuary, signed into law on Sept. 5, 2003, some of the world toughest shark protection legislation with heavy penalty of up to $250,000 per incident for violation. The ground-breaking legislation remains the law in Palau today, despite recent efforts to overturn. In January 2004, Palau received international recognition from Shark Project as a recipient of their first Shark Guardian of the year for passage of such tough shark protection law. read more »

Fish 'n Fins Invites Shark Lovers to Palau

(Dive Travel Business News - Sept 18, 2009) -- Another week of high adrenalin, pure shark diving will take place March 12 - 19, as the Micronesian Shark Foundation and Fish 'n Fins invite shark freaks, friends and fanatics to join Shark Week 2010. Participants will get the opportunity to dive world famous sites like Blue Corner, Peleliu Corner and Shark City without other divers being around. 

Shark Week is an entertaining and educational week held annually by the Micronesian Shark Foundation and Fish'n Fins Dive Operation in Palau. With nightly lectures, presentations and documentaries the fun continues after the diving stops.  Every year Shark Week attracts guests from filmmakers to scientists and marine enforcement officials helping attendees understand the world of shark conservation. Shark Week is planned to take place during the Grey Reef Shark mating season, when hundreds of Grey Reefs come into the reef to mate, giving participants the chance to get close to these wonderful predators. read more »

Palau Hosts Shark Week - March 27-April 3, 2008

(Dive Travel Business News - January 18, 2008) --The Micronesian Shark Foundation (MSF) will hold it sixth annual shark week at the Fish n Fins dive shop, in Palau between March 27 and April 3, 2008.

The Micronesian Shark Foundation is a Palauan-based, non-profit foundation whose goal is to research and monitor the many sharks of Palau as well as scientific shark data collection. Between February and April, hundreds of grey reef sharks migrate to the waters of Palau to mate. This generates a fabulous opportunity for shark lovers to dive with the world famous sharks of Palau and to participate in data collection. Following a dedicated day of shark diving, a full evening’s program of shark themed seminars and activities are conducted at the dive shop. read more »
