(DiveTravelNewswire.com - Oct 21, 2009) -  Sparing Los Cabos a direct hit, Tropical Storm Rick hit Mexico's Pacific coast just north of the resort of Mazatlan on Oct 21. Rick made landfall around 10 a.m. ET with winds of about 55 mph, kicking up high waves, felling trees and toppling sign posts. After moving over land, the storm quickly dissipated into a tropical depression, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Roaring across the Pacific last weekend, Rick was a Category 5 hurricane with winds at 180 mph — making it the strongest hurricane in the eastern North Pacific region since 1997 - kicking up high waves hundreds of miles away that killed at least two people. But the storm spent its force far out at sea turning into a tropical storm by the time it reached Mazatlan, Mexico.
