Saturday, March 19, 2011

(Dive Travel Business News - March 19, 2011) -- M/Y Star Dancer, one of eight yachts in the prestigious Dancer Fleet has completed its first charter exploring the new Milne Bay itinerary in Papua New Guinea. Weekly charters diving the Milne Bay area offer incredible variety including lush tropical reefs, pelagic fish patrolling offshore sea mounts and black sand diving where strange and exotic sea creatures can be seen and photographed. Diving on shipwrecks and aircraft from WWII will also be offered to guests.

Having operated in the Kimbe/Witu/Fathers area of PNG for several years, the move to Milne Bay in January 2011 is prompted by long time repeat guests requesting something new. The Milne Bay area is a popular request and is known for its excellent diving reputation, friendly locals and easy access from Port Moresby. Starting with a local flight to the city Alotau, guests land in an area that offers more options for pre and post cruise activities. Operationally, Alotua provides more infrastructure and accessibility to support for our guests and the yacht.

Star Dancer will typically begin its voyage heading south to the Samurai Island region then east along the various islands. The cruise then turns north and finishes up along the northern side of Milne Bay Star Dancer will stop and visit several of scattered islands and reefs. The area is an oasis to all marine life from the biggest creatures of the deep to the delicate and sometimes weirdest sea creatures ever seen. The reefs are a spectacular eye-catching combination of hard and soft corals while sea grass beds are home to numerous unusual creatures. There are also a number of wrecks located in this area as well. To break up the diving, there will also be opportunities to go ashore and meet the local native residents. The new Star Dancer itinerary will conclude with a stop at the Tawali resort where guests can explore the area, join a land tour that will explore ancient skull caves or visit a wonderful waterfall. Dinner will be served at the resort that night, before the Star Dancer return voyage to the Driftwood Resort, its base of operations in Alotau.

Many Alotua local businesses have welcomed the Star Dancer to the area. Through cooperative efforts with those businesses a seamless the transition to a new itinerary will occur and will streamline operations enabling the Star Dancer to provide her guests with the very best in Milne Bay diving.
