(Dive Travel Business News - December 23, 2011) --  In response to a survey of 2355 scuba divers conducted by Diveboard.com in 2011, between April and June 2011, Diveboard.com has created a free online scuba logbook for divers of all skill levels.

Built by a team of scuba fans, Diveboard.com is a free online service that addresses the wants and needs of divers illustrated in the survey: Divers to save and share scuba memories in a fun and educational way; Diveboard helps scuba divers get involved with the scientific community and contribute to watch the evolution of the marine ecosystem as well as making diving safer; Diveboard enables scuba divers, through fellow divers’ past experiences, to discover new spots and species and to plan their next scuba trips effectively.

Logging dives is easy and fun, allowing divers to uplodad dives profiles direclty from their dive computers. Users simply install the Diveboard navigator plugin (Mac/PC/Linux) to upload dive profiles. Each divers logbook can be enriched with pictures, videos and maps to create vivid dive memories.

Working hand in hand with EOL (Encyclopedia of Life) and IOBIS (Ocean Biographic Information System), Diveboard has created a dedicated tool that divers can use to easily idenitfy ifsh species they've sighted encountered during a dive and find species by dive location.

Users observations and experiences will aid in the understanding and maintenance of the environment by providing a global network of scientists with valuable, accurate information in an almost real-time manner. Species occurrence data will be shared with the IOBIS network (Ocean Biographic Information System), serving universities worldwide, as well as other global zoological networks such as GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) and Worms (World Register of Marine Species). Medical data will be shared with DAN (Diver’s Alert Network) and water temperature data will be shared with divers4oceanography.org

Users can choose to share their data with the scientific community, and be cited as anonymous or named as its owner.
Users can share their logs with friends and fellow divers in the Cloud.  Users can publish their dives on Facebook, Google+, Twitter.  Users can check out fellow divers' experiences in any given location and be properly prepared before they hit the water themselves.
