Dive Within - A Week-long Retreat Combines the Synergies of Yoga and Diving
(Dive Travel Business News - January 19, 2012) -- The Dive Cooperative, a dive operation and training academy in Cozumel on a mission to bring a higher consciousness to diving, is launching an innovative new retreat entitled "Dive Within". This unique 7-day program brings together the synergies of scuba diving and yoga in an integrated program that allows for exploration of many aspects of day-to-day life.
Meditation, breathing and visualization exercises will help participants achieve a sense of calm, peace and expanded awareness under water, while the physical elements of yoga will help them to prepare and recover from the strenuous diving activity.
The Itinerary:
The first retreat is scheduled for February 23 – March 1, 2012. Each day will begin at 6am with a gentle breathing and warm-up yoga practice followed by breakfast. Scuba diving and snorkeling excursions will begin at 8:30am - 2pm followed by lunch. A vigorous yoga practice designed around a 7-day chakra balancing course is scheduled each evening at Sunset. Dinner is at 7pm followed by a reflection meditation.
The yoga/diving retreat package, priced at US$2,300 pp/d.o., does not include: Additional diving courses or dives; Additional yoga sessions; Enriched air; Airport Transfers; Taxes; and Tips.
The Diving:
Studies show that scuba diving and snorkeling are perceived by many people as an opportunity for silent meditation: immediately upon entering the water with a snorkel or scuba regulator, participants are automatically focused on the sound of their own breathing, thus quickly immersing into a blissful meditative state, intensified by the beauty of the underwater world.
The 7-day package has been designed to accommodate snorkelers, certified divers, and non-divers who would like to try scuba diving. Half of the day will be spent in the waters of Cozumel to enjoy the soothing affects of the ocean. Daily water activities included in the package are: 4 days of boat diving for certified divers (8 dives) or 4 days of boat reef excursions for snorkelers; a discover scuba course (1 day - 1 dive) for non-certified divers. Transportation to the boat is included in the package.
The Yoga:
The morning yoga practice will be taught by Lisa Smith who currently lives in Cozumel, Mexico. Lisa is a certified Vinyasa yoga alliance instructor, a student of Integrative Nutrition, a body worker skilled in reiki, chakra and acupressure therapies.
The evening's yoga chakra balancing course will be taught by Irina Kruzhilina. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Irina has completed her 500-hour certification at the ISHTA (Integrated Sciences of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda) Yoga Center and teaches yoga at several centers in New York city.
The Accommodations:
Retreat accommodations are in one of the fully equipped and furnished beachfront villas on the west side of Cozumel. Each villa has double occupancy bedrooms with private baths and can accommodate 6 to 14 participants. An example is Casa Cielo in the south of the island.
The Food:
Guests will enjoy three nutritious ayurvedic-inspired meals a day (supplemented by healthy snacks) created by professional chef Thijs Beuming. The foods will relate to the various chakras balanced during the yoga sessions and have been carefully designed to be compatible with the diving schedule. Welcome and farewell dinners are included and will be hosted at one of the local restaurants. All other meals will be served at the villa.
February's Dive Within workshop is the first of several retreats planned by Dive Cooperative for 2012. The retreat caters to small groups - with a minimum 6 and maxium of 14 guests.
