Cayman Islands Pirates Week 2009

CI Pirates Week

(Cayman Compass - September 7, 2009) -- Although it might be for the last time, Cayman residents and tourists alike are being urged to get ready for the excitement and passion that always comes with the national festival, Pirates Week slated for Nov 12 - 22, 2009.  Leader of Government Business McKeeva Bush has said that he intends to change the theme of the national festival starting in 2010.

However, with only a little more than two months to go, the Pirates Week office is busy planning and making preparations for this year’s event, that will include a kick-off party, parade, street dances, fireworks, songfest, Pirate Costume Competition and Miss Festival Queen Costume Competition.  Many of the events are free and festival goers are encouraged to break out their best Pirate costumes.

Many different sporting activities are part of the festivities, such as the 5K run, 5K Sea Swim, 10K run, Cycling Criterium, Underwater Treasure Hunt, Mike Lockwood Memorial International Swim Meet, Cardboard Boat Race, and the Mickey Mouse Darts Tournament.

Many dive resorts are offering Pirates Week Packages.
