Boston Sea Rovers Show Attracts Non-Diving Friends and Family.
(Dive Travel Business News - January 27, 2012) -- The upcoming Boston Sea Rovers Show, to be held at the CoCo Key Hotel & Water Resort in Danvers MA on the weekend of March 10-11, has created many incentives for attendees to bring along non-diving friends and family.
Boston Sea Rovers Discover Scuba Pool offers non-diving friends and family the opportunity to try scuba for free. The minimum age for participation is 10 years old. A parent or legal guardian must be present and sign the waiver for divers under the age of eighteen (18). Pre-registration with Discover Diving, the event Sponsor, ensures a time slot. Sunday is Kids Day at the Boston Sea Rovers Show. Kids 12 and under receive free admission on Sunday, March 11, 2012. The kids program is truly unique:
In an interactive Deep Blue Discoveries program, children aged 8-12 get to Build a Coral Reef in the Pool. Kids will receive snorkeling instruction and play educational games, AND build a replica coral reef marine ecosystem in the pool. The Build a Coral Reef program is FREE and all snorkeling gear will be provided. Advanced registration is required. Please email Holly at kidsday@bostonsearovers.com to register. A waiver will need to be completed for each child on the day of the event.
Volunteers from the New England Aquarium help kids explore what kinds of critters call the coastal tidepool their home at the New England Aquarium’s Tidepool Touch Tank. No critters are harmful, an activity suitable for children of all ages.
Presented by the students of Salem State University Cat Cove Marine Lab, young participants can find out how fast their escargot can go in a live Snail Race!
In the Marine Debris activity, designed for children ages 5 and over, participants will use single use plastic refuse commonly found washed up on beaches, along with self-hardening clay to create sea animals. Presented by Michelle Lougee, an environmental artist, sculptor, and ceramist. who e teaches sculpture, ceramics, pottery, and drawing to adults and children.
Presented by Sean and Gus Nitengale, Gus Outdoors Lizard Town Video is a captivating story of a six year-old naturalist and host Gus Nightingale who goes on a quest to the Bahamas archipelago to meet some of the country’s many spectacular creatures. Gus explores the pristine islands of the Bahamas in search of lizards, iguanas and snakes. To cool off, Gus plunges into the gem-like water and snorkels with the beautiful and bizarre looking creatures of the sea. Gus Outdoors, is an award-winning children's wildlife and adventure series that mixes animal identification and personal encounters that delivers an entertaining, yet educational presentation that will give children a tremendous respect for nature.
A presentation that will inspire kids and teenagers, Samantha Whitcraft presents Careers With Sharks. Whitcraft is a marine conservation biologist and Shark Savers’ Program Manager for Citizen Science. She has worked to protect the oceans’ animals in the field, lab, and office. Researching biodiversity, endangered species, and sustainable fisheries has taken her to the Amazon with National Geographic, to Mesoamerican with NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program, and around the world to promote eco-tourism that emphasizes ocean advocacy and adventure. Whitcraft is a Scuba Diving Instructor, published free-lance nature writer, and passionate community activist.
Kids will meet the amazing Florida Manatee through incredible imagery and interesting facts in the Snorkeling With Manatees presentation by Amanda Cotton. Kids will learn what a day in the life is like for these gentle giants; while enjoying fun games, stories and interactive participation. Amanda Cotton is the founder and principal photographer for A COTTON PHOTO Creative Works, a media and design company specializing in underwater photography. ACP’s goal is to help the general public embrace the beauty below the waves; in hopes that with awareness comes concern for the planet’s fragile marine ecosystems.
