Bolongo Bay Beach Resort offers Paws for a Vacation Program

(Dive Travel Business News - May 1, 2012) --  Popular Dive Hotel in St Thomas USVI, the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort has partnered with the Humane Society of St. Thomas for an island pet adoption program. Guests who “Paws for Vacation” and adopt a cat or dog from the Humane Society of St. Thomas will receive a 30% discount on the room-only plan in both Oceanview and Beachfront rooms, located just steps from the sand.

Available CATS and DOGS can be viewed at the Humane Society of St. Thomas website. On the first day of the guest's vacation, the resort also provides complimentary roundtrip taxi to the Humane Society of St. Thomas to meet the new furry family member and begin the adoption process. The process typically takes three business days.

The room discount is credited to the guest's bill once the adoption is final. The offer is not combinable with any other promotion and a minimum five-night stay is required to allow time to process the paperwork and health certifications for the adopted animal.

The cost to adopt is $100 for a dog and $75 for a cat. This covers a vet check-up, vaccinations, getting the animal spayed or neutered, and a health certificate.  The Humane Society will also provide a complimentary pet carrier, which it asks new owners to ship back to benefit other island animal adoptees.

With the Paws for a Vacation program, pets fly home free (on American Airlines only) under the seat or in the cargo hold area. To fly home free, the guest must make arrangements with the airline to add a pet to their air reservation. American Airlines will provide a record locator number and advise of a fee. However, when the Humane Society brings the new pet to the airport to check in, the fee will be waived by the local gate agent.

Guests who are not able to adopt a pet can still "Lend a Paw" to help. The Humane Society of St. Thomas has a need for volunteers to accompany animals on American Airlines flights to the US to meet an adopting family or transfer to a new shelter.  Guests simply have to be willing to let the animal fly with them on their reservation and no cost is involved thanks to American Airlines partnership with the Humane Society of St. Thomas.  Flights are typically to Boston, New York City, Washington DC and Minneapolis.

When Bolongo Bay guests volunteer to "Lend a Paw" by flying back with a pet, they will receive a $50 dining credit to use at either of the resort's restaurants during their stay. Opportunities to fly back will be posted at the resort and available in the Front Desk.
